I went to see Avatar with Cranky, Anguish and some other random douche the other day, from my view the effects were great.
Was a pretty nice storyline honestly. Some cliché's now and then though.
I liked it, although I had some higher expectations. The end was a bit stupid aswell.
Oh well, if you're really into sci-fi, alien-like-shit and (imo) nice special effects it should be a good movie.
Not a lot of action though, sad but true.

The message of this movie is great, but the content is a bit easy, may too easy...I liked it anyway
